This chapter focuses on the dynamics of innovation in the field of vaccines. Preventive vaccines differ substantially from therapeutic pharmaceuticals and require a specific approach to innovation all along their value chain to address their distinctive challenges. We analyze the fundamentals and the dynamics of the vaccine market and industry, to highlight these challenges.
